If you can imagine the classic adventure Myst dressed in 1960s pulp science fiction stylings, then you might have a good idea what Albedo is all about. It's quite an interesting first person puzzle adventure that scores a lot of points for its unique look and enthralling narrative, but it's let down by some cumbersome controls and some less than intuitive puzzles. You're placed in the role of a night watchman at a secret research facility who is knocked out by a mysterious explosion. When you wake up, you find yourself inside the facility, which just happens to contain a variety of bizarre life forms. Are they some sort of biological experiment, or something much worse? As you explore in search of a way out of this nightmare, you'll uncover the truth behind this disturbing ordeal. What follows is mostly enjoyable journey through a set of puzzles, which are contained within each room of the facility, but which also mixes in some first person shooting action for good measure. The puzzles are a good mix of styles, which should keep genre fans happy, but the game's main problem is that many of them are a little too obtuse for their own good, and require trial and error to solve, rather than logical deduction. The controls too are a little awkward, and take some time to get used to, which also renders the game slightly less enjoyable than it should be. On the plus side though, the story is compelling while the visuals are slick and very stylish, with some great design work, so if you can get past the two drawbacks, there is a fun adventure here.
