Assault Trooper

Strategy 1997 Dos Dosbox Webfoot Technologies Organized forces

Tactical shooter, fun and unpretentious

The beauty of these types of games is bound to the way they allow you to take quite intricate tactical decisions without throwing thousand of stat based decisions your way. You see the action from above, as you control your team of troopers around the environments. It is a good idea to take every challenge at face value, and use the space to your advantage as much as possible. Cover is important and concerted assaults are the kind of things that make this game be raised from the plethora of other overhead shooters. But, the game is pretty nicely streamlined. You can control your squad members individually or you can control them in larger groups. You will be amazed at how simple the controls are, which is not something to snide at, as so many more other games can only do so much before they show their flawed control schemes. Nope, Assault Trooper stays true to its roots, but it makes use of advancements of the era in which it was released, late 90s, though it keeps the graphics at a level which will remind you of late 80s or early 90s. Try it and also take a gander at Fallout Tactics, a similar game which allows both real time as well as turn based action.
