Bloodstone

RPG 1993 Dos Dosbox Mindcraft Isometric Fantasy

Better top down RPG with a rather forgettable story

The top down RPG wasn't really the medium of sprawling stories, sure enough, with a few notable exceptions, Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate and a few others. However, this game, while really well executed from most other points of view, has a bland and boringly written story, that does very little to keep you interested. The party based action is at times very engaging, depending also on your enemies, which, when in greater number, ask for a very calculated and tactical approach. Graphics wise, the game is not too bad, more advanced than, say, the 8 bit top downers of the NES era. But at times this too can get too fond of overusing tilesets, and of sporting the same color schemes, over and over again. But you'll still play it, driven by the promise of loot and by the occasional, though not rare, interesting fights. So, for top down RPG fans, while not a must play, a definitive DOS era top 100 entrant, without question, worth a revisit. Just make sure you understand that the game has its good dose of dated, and that it will take soem getting used to, before you can actually sink in it.
