He was the best monkey I ever had

If you've ever seen the movie The Lawnmower Man and think this looks a little familiar, then there's a good reason for that. It's actually a sequel to an earlier game directly based on the movie and which is also called Lawnmower Man and if you've played that game and enjoyed, you might just enjoy what's on offer here. However, if you have any real sense, you probably didn't like that game as it wasn't very good and unfortunately, Cyberwar very much continues in that tradition. This one continues after the first game's telling of a scientist's diastrous exploration into virtual reality and once again finds poor old Pierce Brosnan taking on the twisted cyber genius Jobe. The gameplay here is similar to the first game and basically consists of a series of mini-games which are largely reflex based and which don't actually require a lot of interaction. Most of your time is spent watching lengthy cutscenes which attempt to explain the flimsy plot in typically flashy 90s interactive movie style. These sequences are quite impressive on the whole but they don't really disguise the fact that the game is all flash and no substance. The game's themselves are pretty simplistic and often baffling but are connected by the fact that they are not that much fun. It's all too often that you find yourself struggling to find out what you're supposed to do only by the time you figure it out, you've died and are now forced to watch yet another long scene that hammers home your failure. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of incentive to try again and ultimately, you're better off looking elsewhere.
