D-Day

Strategy 2004 Windows 1C Company World Wars Real time War Action strategy

Let the invasion begin

This is a similar game to the same developer's earlier Desert Rats vs. Afrika Korps, and if you're into highly detailed historical strategy games this is going to be right up your alley. It's a deep, complex and utterly enthralling game that is going to keep you busy for weeks and which provides a fascinating insight into one of biggest campaigns of World War 2 and indeed military history. There are twelve large campaigns to play through, each taking a portion of the invasion, and the player is charged with basically being in charge of everything. You'll get to pick troops and units, choose deployment zones, coordinate transports and resupplies, and of course issue commands on the battlefield. You've got an extensive range of real world units to make use of, including authentically replicated tanks, artillery and aircraft, while the missions are just as detailed and involving and which really give a sense of the greater conflict and the importance of your role in it. At first glance, this might look similar to other WWII strategy games on the market and indeed this is true. However, few other titles can compete with the sheer exhaustive detail on offer here, and for history and strategy gaming buffs, this is about as good as it gets. There's a fantastic sense of immersion in the period, and the sheer amount of things to do ensures you're never bored. What's even better is that you're never overwhelmed by everything, thanks to the slick control system. When you add in the superb graphics, atmospheric sound and smart AI, you have a classic experience.
