A gothic action
Dark Vengeance is a 1998 fantasy action game where your mission si to destroy the evil and to bring peace and light to your land. The action takes place in the medieval era, and the gameplay is similar to the Tomb Raider series at that time, but Dark Vengeance contains more combats. You can choose to play three characters: Jetrel the Warlock, Kite the Trickster, and Nanoc the Gladiator, each with their own attack style and skills. The missions and the levels (which are 18 in number) are not repetitive, since the variety dominates this game, but not so much the combats, but I will get to that later. The graphics don't compare with those present in newer games, but they are acceptable. The music and sound effects are suitable for the action and the story presented, especially in the intro. The music is well orchestrated, so are the sounds, that include bells and drums. The ambiance also fits with the gothic style of this game, and the enemies are genuinely presented, when they are attacked or when they make their presence felt. Your character can use 9 different weapons, and among your tasks are included door unlockings and finding keys. There are three different types of combats, and they are governed by key combinations. They are not that special and revolutionary, since you approach your enemies and just hit repeatedly until they die. Despite this, Dark Vengeance deserves your attention and it looks pretty good for its time.
