Fight for your honor

The original Dishonored was one of those surprise hits which took the world by storm, thanks to its gripping mix of stealth, action and a wonderfully realized steampunk world which took players into the dark heart of a bizarre whaling town in pursuit of revenge. This sequel keeps much of what made the original so appealing and adds in enough new elements to create a worthy follow-up which deserves to be played. The story here picks up some fifteen years after the best ending from the original, finding hero Corvo returned to his rightful place as Royal protector, with Emily returned to the throne. However, a new threat emerges in the form of the Crown Killer, a vigilante dealing out justice in the Empress's name but without her approval, while Emily also finds herself ousted by a power-seeking rival. You get to choose between Corvo and Emily as your player character, each of whom has their own unique supernatural powers, while the gameplay offers a familiar mix of stealth and action, as you complete a series of open-ended missions and sidequests which can be handled how you see fit. Dishonored 2 really is a superb offering that brings in just enough new elements to feel different while retaining enough of what made the original so good. The shift in location is a nice touch, opening up the world and lore, while the new powers are inventive and a lot of fun to use, rewarding the creative player. The visuals are as superb as you'd expect, with layers of detail to enjoy, and any quibbles are minor, making this a fine choice for the action/stealth fan.
