A strange new world
This is an intriguing little adventure game from the creators of Blueberry Garden and Kometen and which mixes up the traditional formula in quite a few ways. It's not quite perfect but makes for a good addition to any genre fan's collection. The game puts you in the role of Sebastian, a young lad who lives in a futuristic city who is about to embark on the grand adventure that is life. However, along the way he'll meet an eclectic cast of characters and have to face challenging decisions about his own role in the future of the city. What follows is a bold and ambitious adventure which abandons many of the genre's conventions. Puzzles here are not linear and fixed and instead you'll learn from other characters how the world can be changed by programming and hacking, with more than one option usually available to effect change. This really is an interesting game, not least because of its immense ambition. The world created here is believable and realistic, feeling alive and populated, with characters that are easy to relate to. The freedom offered by the game is also welcome and again adds to the sense of immersion and which makes for a pleasant change from the usual linear adventures. However, it is complex, and it's easy to miss important tutorials in the first few hours of gameplay, which may lead to frustration later. There are some other questionable design choices too, but the visuals and complexity of the gameplay make up for most of the shortcomings, so if you are looking for something quirky and striking, then this is for you.
