The Great Escape (with a goat)
If you can imagine a sort of mix of the DROD
games and Bolo Adventures
with an added goat, then you have some idea of what to expect from Escape Goat. It's a delightfully clever little game that provides plenty of puzzling larks and wraps them up with a nice sense of humor to create an all-round great package. In a delightfully bonkers bit of background setup, you take control of a goat which has been accused of witchcraft. A helping paw comes in the shape of a friendly mouse, and together you must escape from this nightmare, and which involves making your way through a series of cunning puzzles. The game is presented in side-on fashion, and proceeds through a series of rooms, which require a mix of platforming and puzzling skills, where physics and the environment are your best friend, as you possess no combat skills. There are over fifty rooms here, each of which features hidden machinery, destructible walls and other such things, which must all be manipulated if you are to get out alive. Escape Goat really is a wonderful little game. It might not look much from the screenshots, but the simple images and environment and character work belie a game which is full of personality and charm. It's a very accessible game, which introduces new features steadily, but the difficulty soon ramps up and becomes challenging even for veteran puzzle fans. This is thanks to the sheer inventiveness on display here in the puzzles, and there are some absolute corkers to experience. All in all, a cracking game.
