Tribute to the history of gaming
This game is interesting in the least. As the game's name suggested, Evoland is actually sort of a homage to the evolution of gaming history, and acts as such. You start the game in the simplest of graphics, reminding you of Pokemon playing on your old Gameboy and slowly, but gradually increases its graphics, picking up gags and moves from a lot of famous games from history - Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Final Fantasy, even Diablo. Essentially, the game is an RPG and plays as such. The vast and numerous references and jokes about game classics will surely put a smile on your face and a sense of nostalgia. It's a very cool and original insight into the development of gaming, from the simplest graphics to great, high quality 3D graphics. The combat system is similar to that of Final Fantasy, and very fun. While the game has no personality of its own, I believe that is the exact intention of the developers, since the game is more a history lesson with a few gags than a game in on itself. If you are a gaming veteran and want to take a trip through history, you should check the game out for sure, more so if you've already played all the game this one references to. Really nice work.
