A worthy and terrifying sequel
What we have here is are two solid entries in the F.E.A.R. franchise of action/horror games which are perfect for followers of Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Project Origin is the main attraction here, as it is the sequel to the terrifying original, with Reborn being an add-on pack which adds a new campaign to expand the intriguing storyline. Project Origin sees an all-new main character being sent to arrest the president of the company behind the first game's plot and actually takes place just before that one finishes, so this will make more sense if you're familiar with the series. What follows is similar to the earlier entry, and is a mix of first-person shooter and survival horror. There are some new mechanics added here to mix things up such as movable cover, combat mechs and better aiming, while the whole thing is a lot less linear than before, with environments that encourage exploration and which are also more diverse. On the whole, this is a worthy sequel that builds upon the impressive foundations of its predecessor to provide a solid and frightening experience. Perhaps the game's strongest point is its fantastic atmosphere, which is brooding and intense, with plenty of impressive environments to explore and be terrified by. There are also lots of cool weapons and some viciously nasty enemies to use them on, while the story is intriguing in the way that it expands slightly on the mythos of the original. There are some minor flaws but on the whole, this is a top notch thrill ride.
