The sisters are back
The original Giana Sisters
is best known for being such a complete rip off of Super Mario Bros
that Nintendo had it pulled just a couple of weeks into its release. As such most people have never heard of the game and fewer still have played it, which isn't actually a big deal as it isn't really that great. However, with this title and Twisted Dreams
, the sisters have managed to reinvent themselves and have turned into a surprisingly decent platforming franchise. This one isn't quite a full blown sequel to Twisted Dreams and almost feels like an expansion pack but remains a fun and mind bending addition to the genre. The feel is very much Sonic
in these updates, with the games being blisteringly fast platformers where you race around, collecting stuff and bopping enemies. The levels are based around dream worlds and in an interesting mechanic, you have to twist the world around you in order to proceed, as well as change Giana's personality to unlock her unique abilities. For the most part, this is a top notch platformer that does a great job of bringing the Giana sisters to a new audience. It is pretty similar to Twisted Dreams but if you enjoyed that and are desperate for more, you're not going to be disappointed here. There's little in the way of anything that's really new, but the level designs are superbly entertaining to race around and are rarely less than sheer fun to play. The graphics still leap off the screen at you, while the gameplay is rock hard, so if you're looking for a challenging bit of eye candy, this is for you.
