Not so great addition to a solid series
The Gothic series is a pretty extensive and largely decent set of action RPGs that are reminiscent of the Elder Scrolls titles or even The Witcher. The first games are set in a traditional fantasy world, with an overarching storyline set up in the opening trilogy. Forsaken Gods is actually an add-on for the third part so if you haven't played Gothic 3 (or indeed the first two games), you're likely to be a bit lost here, in terms of story at least. In terms of gameplay, this is similar to its predecessors, being a largely open-world game (although this being an add-on, the world is smaller than usual), featuring lots of exploration, monsters and multiple-choice dialogues. As ever, you have leveling up to do, equipment to find and abilities to learn, but a noticeable change here comes in the combat system, with a new parry mechanic, a reliance on stamina and a new move to liven things up. Story-wise this continues on from one of the endings of the base game and which sees a new threat to the realm in the form of a variety of leaders seeking control of everything. While earlier games in the series were pretty decent, this one is unfortunately not so great. Although it retains some of the charms of the other titles, such as an interesting world to explore and solid combat, it rather lets things down in terms of story and execution. This version at least fixes some of the bugs which plagued the original release but a lack of a real goal and an uninteresting plot render this one for fans only.
