King's Quest's Pivital Past
Explore adventure and PC gaming roots with King's Quest II Romancing the Throne. King's Quest II is an important chapter in the history of King Graham and the Land of Daventry. After several years on the throne, King Graham begins his search for a wife. He sees an image of a woman locked in a tower and goes on a quest to find her. This game is referenced in the trailer for the King's Quest finale, King's Quest The Silver Lining. So anyone who is already invested in the story must play this game. I remember that this was one of the first adventure games I could beat without needing to use a guide. I was very proud of that accomplishment. That means there are no real mazes or labyrinths, no sailing segments or wandering through the desert that I can remember. It still uses the text based command interface, unless you find one of the graphically upgraded fan remakes that exist out there somewhere on the internet. The cheeky Sierra sense of humor is here in stronger force than I can recall seeing it in any other King's Quest game. Mostly it appears in reference to pop culture of the time or other Sierra games. Be sure to have multiple save files, just in case you manage to ruin your chances of winning by using the wrong item at the wrong time, or miss something that you can't go back and pick up. Still, it's a solid adventure game that will keep casual players busy for a few weeks or so, maybe less if you're really hardcore about it.
