Lars: The Wanderer

Action 1995 Dos Dosbox Gravity Robots Platformer

Exciting and action-packed adventure

Now this is something which will have escaped the vast majority of gamers, hailing as it does from Korea but that shouldn't let you from giving it a whirl. It's a sort of side scrolling RPG mixed with hack 'n' slash elements, a hybrid of Castlevania, Zelda and Contra if you will. It's an adventure that sees players exploring a well-realised fantasy world, speaking with the various characters that inhabit it and embarking on quests to slay the many and varied monsters which get in your way. There are also plenty of magic spells to use, extra weapons to find and upgrade and other assorted items to discover. Of course, as the game is in Korean, the text won't make a lot of sense to most people but this isn't a great problem and it's actually pretty to figure out what is going on and what you need to do. The Wanderer really is an unexpected treat that provides heaps of exciting and enjoyable adventuring that is perfect for fans of Zeliard and other such games. It features a pretty epic quest that will keep you challenged for some time, while the variety of environments to explore and weapons and spells to find also add plenty of appeal. The graphics are a particular high point, with a gorgeous old-school sprites that are vibrant, attractive and full of detail, and with level design that is clever and inventive. There are lots of neat visual effects for things like spells and weapon effects so when you combine all these aspects together, you have a fine adventure that deserves to be played.
