Superb old school fanatasy RPG

This little known fantasy RPG is a forgotten gem that fans of Dungeons and Dragons, Baldur's Gate and Dungeon Master will simply lap up. It is a sort of sequel to the almost as enjoyable Legacy of the Ancients, but it isn't really necessary to have played this first and newcomer should be able to get their heads around the story without much difficulty. The plot is reasonably inventive for a fantasy game from this period, revolving around a quest to rescue a King who has been kidnapped as part of a dastardly plot by the evil Baron Taragas and who intends to create weapons of mass destruction in his search for power. This all unfolds in a fairly typical, but well realised, fantasy world, and the game requires to explore, engage in combat and talk with various NPCs in order to complete your quest, which is again quite standard. Side quests, odd jobs and gambling games are also available as entertaining diversions, with gameplay playing out in an overhead view most of the time, but which switches to a sort of 3D perspective when exploring dungeons. Combat is turn-based, while magic also gets a look in as do various forms of transport to make getting around the world easier. For its time, this is quite an ambitious RPG, with a substantial quest and plenty of features to keep you entertained. While nothing startlingly original, everything is integrated near perfectly, with an intuitive interface and responsive controls. While the graphics are obviously basic, they still perform their role well enough and help to create a believable world to explore. For fans of fantasy RPGs, this is definitely one to seek out.
