The magic is back

Here comes another blockbuster franchise to take a trip into the LEGO world of blockbuilding. After Star Wars and Indiana Jones comes that most popular of boy wizards and while this one isn't quite as enjoyable as these other efforts, it still makes for a magical ride. The main focus here is on the story mode, which breaks down the events of the first four books/movies into a series of chapters which let you play through the most famous occurrences from the period. First time you play, you're restricted to the relevant characters but upon completion you can go through again as any of the newly unlocked characters. The main gameplay is similar to other LEGO titles, being a mix of exploration, platforming, puzzling and light combat, but perhaps the biggest appeal here is the chance to roam around those famous locations, such as Diagon Alley, and the various parts of Hogwarts. As is usual for a LEGO title, there's a bunch of collectible items and characters to discover and which encourages exploration and replay. For Harry Potter fans, this is probably a must play as there's something delightfully irresistible about the idea of wandering around LEGO recreations of Harry's stomping grounds, especially when they're as charming and detailed as they are here. The gameplay isn't overly complex but it is fun and there's that classic LEGO sense of humor which permeates everything. There's also not a great deal to differentiate this from other LEGO titles but apart from this, you're in for a good time here.
