Expand the Empire!
If the likes of old-school city builders like Cleopatra and Pharaoh are in your collection then Lethis would make for a good addition. It's a steampunk-inspired take on the genre and while it suffers from issues such as a clunky interface it offers enough construction fun to make it worth picking up. The game is set in an imaginative Victorian steampunk-style world which is ruled over by the Emperor. The main mode to play through here is the campaign which offers twenty-six missions to try out, each with their own unique objectives and with the option to play on one of three difficulty levels. As is typical for the genre, you'll have to build up your cities, constructing houses and other buildings useful in a healthy community while providing resources for your workers so that you can expand the empire. You'll also get to trade with other cities, with the overall goal of keeping your Emperor as content as can be. In addition to the campaign mode, you've got a sandbox to play in, where you can just build things as you see fit. For the most part, Lethis is a fine addition to this classic genre. It offers most of the features that fans of such games demand and provides plenty of depth and strategy. There's a good range of buildings and other items to make use of and which encourages replay and experimentation while the visuals are charming and detailed. There are however a few problems with the interface, with the controls not being overly responsive and with certain features not being well explained but if you can get over this, there's some fun to be had here.
