Lost Adventures of Kroz

Final adventure in Kroz

This final installment in the legendary Kroz series of dungeon crawlers doesn't really differ much from its predecessors, except in sheer size, but if you are a fan, then this one needs to be checked out as it is perhaps the best game in the franchise. Following on from previous entries like Return to Kroz, this one takes the established formula of the series and doesn't really do much new with it, but blows it up to a massive 75 levels of challenging monster-slaying action. Newcomers to the series should know that all the games are basically very crude versions of things like Gauntlet, with the player exploring a series of dungeons and killing monsters. There are plenty of little puzzles too, which require you to explore every corner of each level, collecting gems, whips and keys while on the lookout for switches to open the numerous doors which bar your progress. This one maintains the distinctive visual style of earlier entries, with everything represented in old-school ASCII fashion, and with your hero being a simply smiley face. Lost Adventures doesn't mix things up in terms of Kroz games and simply concentrates on doing what the series does best, which is provide plenty of seriously hard retro dungeon crawling. If you don't like difficult games, then steer clear of this one, but if you fancy a challenge, then this will be right up your alley. The action and puzzles are clever and exhilarating, and although you will die a lot, the game keeps you coming back for more, enjoyable as it is.
