Save the galaxy
Despite its title making it sound like some sort of twisted dating sim or indie adventure, this is actually a couch co-op space shooter that offers a few inventive ideas and makes a refreshing change from Xenon and Gradius. There's little in the way of storyline to trouble you here, and instead you'll simply roam through the galaxy on board your massive neon battleship while blowing the living daylights out of everything you come across. As you explore, you'll face the forces of the evil Anti-Love, while also rescuing kidnapped space bunnies to help boost your score. This all sounds familair stuff, but the trick here is that the game is based around co-operative play and in order to emerge victorious, you'll have to work closely with either an AI pilot or a real one. You'll need to switch back and forth between different weapon systems, jump to the shields or the engines, and it's this juggling of roles which is at the heart of the game's appeal. Your ship is fully upgradeable too, which appeals to the interest, while randomized levels keep things fresh and simple controls make it accessible to everyone. This really is a neat little space shooter that should be played by fans of the genre. The visual style might be a little cute for hardcore gamers, but it suits thing admirably and the game has an undeniably large personality. The gameplay is varied and enjoyable, with the co-op idea adding immensely to the entertainment factor. You can't save games partway through a zone, which is annoying, but apart from this, this is a fine game.
