Get ready for a big surprise

Metrocide is a sort of top down take on the classic stealth 'em up Hitman, but which adds some pretty hardcore shooter elements to make something which might just appeal to fans of Hotline Miami, but which isn't quite in the same league. The game's premise is simple enough and sees you in a nightmarish cyberpunk future where pretty much everyone wants you dead. The reason for this is that you are a legendary contract killer so you've made yourself a lot of enemies. As you roam through the city, you'll face the cops, vigilantes, gangs and even robotic drones as you attempt to fulfill your contracts. The whole thing is played via a fairly old-school 2D topdown perspective, and you basically just run around blasting everything that gets in your way, or trying to sneak your way through when guns just won't do the job. There are three distinct areas to explore, some nifty weapons to try out and plenty of bad guys to take down, while for those who like their games tough, permadeath rears its ugly head. For a while at least, this is a fun if slightly repetitive little game. You have to be patient when taking out your contracts as you'll get spotted quickly if you don't hide the bodies, but Metal Gear Solid this ain't. The visuals are supposedly charming in a retro way but aren't really anything to write home about, although the city does feel quite alive and is interesting to explore. The main problem here is that the gameplay just isn't varied or interesting enough to keep you hooked for long so if you do try this, don't expect to be playing for weeks.
