The classic returns
There can't be many people who don't know the name of Myst and its sequel Riven, as such adventures are close to legendary in gaming circles and which are known for practically inventing an entire genre. However, if you're one of those gamers who have never experienced their delights and are curious about trying one, then this is a good place to start. In essence, this is a remake of the original Myst so unless you're a diehard fan of it, there's perhaps no need to try this but otherwise, this is still a fine adventure. The game is basically a first-person point-and-click adventure, which sees you stumbling upon a mysterious book and after reading it, you find yourself within the world described in its pages. The gameplay sees you venturing through a series of static scenes, solving the many and varied puzzles which are the very reason for the game's existence. This version adds a whole new game engine, with the main point of appeal being far superior visuals and audio to the original. However, this is something which might not appeal to the purists out there and for those people, they're probably better off with the original. If you're not so snobbish though, then you'll find a riveting and highly challenging cerebral adventure which still stands up well today. The story is thinner than other such games which have followed in its wake but there's no denying the beauty and craftmanship which went into this so if you want to play a true classic, then this should be in your collection.
