Time to take out the trash
With its old-school pixel graphics and simple, tight gameplay, Not a Hero is reminiscent of classic run 'n' gun games like Elevator Action
, Metal Slug
and Rush 'n Attack
and if you enjoy such games, you'll have a great time here. This one also throws in a bonkers storyline to go with its cool visuals and intense action, and makes for an all-round solid package. The game sees you in control of a professional assassin who gets hired by a rabbit from the future to clean up the town, and which basically involves taking out all the gang lords who are turning it into a nightmare for honest citizens. You have a fairly broad line-up of heroes to use in your fight, each with their own skills and abilities and must make your way through an extensive series of side-scrolling levels, running, ducking and of course blowing the living daylights out of everything that gets in your way. You have both primary and secondary objectives on your missions, while random events such as the appearance of SWAT helicopters will really keep you on your toes, and make the fun even more unpredictable. Not A Hero really is a cracking bit of shooting action. It impresses with its slick visuals, which are stylish and nail that retro look perfectly, with some lovely environment and character design and some massive explosions to enjoy. The variety of characters to play as helps to maintain interest, while the gameplay is intense, exciting and never less than hugely enjoyable, helped in no small part by the excellent controls, making this a great addition to your collection.
