Set sail for adventure

While it might be an unashamed Zelda copy, taking inspiration most notably from Wind Waker, Oceanhorn remains a first class addition to the action/RPG genre. It's got everything you need from such a game, including a compelling story, lush visuals, clever puzzles and plenty of action, so if you are looking for a good adventure to get lost in, this makes for a sound investment. The narrative here finds your character waking up to a letter from his father who has mysteriously disappeared. He has only left behind his notebook and an old notebook as clues to his whereabouts, so it's up to you to follow them and find out what's going on. In terms of gameplay, this follows very closely in the footsteps of classic Zelda games, as you explore a large and well realized world, sailing the high seas looking for adventure and intrigue. You get to battle strange creatures, wield powerful magic, solve cunning puzzles and all the other sorts of things which these games usually include. Oceanhorn really is a cracking little game that scratches that RPG itch and does a good job of filling any Zelda shaped holes in your life. The story is a genuinely interesting one, with some lovely twists and turns and some memorable characters to encounter, while the combat is thrilling and fun. There's a real sense of exploration and adventure to the game, while the visuals are lush, with vibrant environments and excellent character design. The puzzles are challenging and inventive and really the only problem with the game is the terribly unbalanced boss fights, which are exercises in frustration. Apart from this, Oceanhorn is a great experience.
