If you played and enjoyed the original Oddworld
games from back in the day, then this rebooted version is going to be on your list of must play games. Even if you haven't played the originals though and like action/platformers like Earthworm Jim
then this should be of interest to you. The typically bonkers plot finds Abe uprooted from his previously happy life as a floor waxer in a meat processing plant as he discovers his boss's unsavory plan to turn the slave work force into a new line of savory meat snacks. Abe must escape from the factory to save his own skin and also help the slaves escape their grisly fate. What follows is a classic side scrolling action platformer that sees you exploring a range of beautifully designed levels, dodging enemies, leaping around and all sorts of other activities associated with the genre. Fans of the original will be pleased to know there's a choice of controls, with a retro-style version alongside a more modern analogue option, while the gameplay remains true to the classic games. This really is a great example of the genre and scores a lot of points for its stunning visual style. The characters and environments are superbly well done, being distinctive and original, with wonderful use of color. The cutscenes are equally impressive, while the sound is of equally high standard. The story is absolutely mad but hugely enjoyable and will keep you entertained to the end, and the gameplay is varied, fast-paced and never less than enjoyable, and this is one series whose return is very welcome.
