Pac it up!
The original Pac Man introduced the world to the first bona fide videogaming star but what's truly amazing is that the little round blob is still raking in the cash today. This collection is a superb one which features a large number of old Pac's outings and makes for a splendid trip down memory lane for any retro fan. First up, we have Pac-Attack, a sort of Puyo Puyo style puzzler which is addictive enough stuff and which uses the license in a suitably different way. Pac-Land was a bit of a departure for the series being a side-scrolling game which lacks excitement but which is charming enough, while Pac-Man should need no introduction but suffice to say it's still hugely addictive. Pac-Mania is perhaps even more interesting, throwing as it did the classic formula into 3D and which really works well, while Pac & Pal is a curiosity that was originally only released in Japan and which again mixes things up quite significantly. Super Pac-Man is effectively the same as the original but with a few minor changes which help keep things fresh. Despite the fact that all these games feature Pac-Man, there's a surprising amount of variation on offer here and which helps to keep the player's interest. The original game remains a simple but massively compelling arcade experience that will keep you playing long after bed time while the other games are also highly playable, although to a greater or lesser degree. However, for any old-school fan this really is a must have collection as they don't get much more influential than good old Pac-Man.
