Absorbing historical strategy sim
History buffs are sure to enjoy this little known strategy game, as it traces the path of the US Marine Corps through the 19th and 20th centuries, taking in their most famous battles along the way. Although not a perfect sim by any means, it is detailed and enjoyable enough to warrant an investigation. The game features turn-based gameplay and is notable for its attention to detail, with concepts such as chain of command being implemented in a realistic fashion. While graphically crude, Halls of Montezuma does score points for this general feel of historical accuracy, with an intuitive interface that is easy to pick up despite the complexity on display. Gameplay is also highly flexible and encourages differing tactics and approaches, which will definitely please armchair generals. An added bonus is the excellent scenario editor and construction set which allows the dedicated player to devise their own missions and which adds much to the game's appeal and longevity. A couple of minor niggles, like occasional lapses in authenticity and an AI which is disappointingly lacking in challenge, don't detract from the fact that this is an absorbing game which should appeal to fans of Sid Meier's Gettysburg.
Live the old raw wars
It's a great war game which is based on the scenario of the famous World War 2. The game is more than an average game in this category because it tags with many traits and features that are found in the best war games of its times. You have the option to build different scenarios through the scenario editor which really makes the game interesting. Apart from that, it also has six inbuilt scenarios of the eastern war front i.e. Moscow, Kharkov, Minsk, Prokhorovka, Korsun and Kanev. There are corps level combats where you have the best hierarchy of command that has been brought to PC war games. The user interface is very intuitive and the game play is as flexible as it could be. It's not only about fighting and tanks, you also have to make brilliant strategies to counter the cunning enemies and mark your dominance. You can also use your imagination with it in devising excellent and competitive scenarios and turn on the heat. Though it's not the best from this developer but is still a quality entertainment. If you are not satisfied with this one, then move to raw war gaming and try White Death which is great war game.
