The horror returns!

The original Pathologic was a classic bit of first person horror/psychological thriller that was just dripping in atmosphere but which was probably missed by many gamers. This HD version gives anyone who missed out a great opportunity to catch up, while long term fans who have fond memories of the original are likely to lap this up. The game sends players on an unforgettable journey into a weird town which is populated by a bunch of strange characters and which hides many dark secrets just waiting to be found. You take control of one of three heroes who are venturing into this town, each with their own unique traits, such as the eccentric nightmare-plagued girl with healing abilities, or the ruthless investigator, and who each have their own reasons for embarking on this adventure. What follows is a gripping open-world, non-linear game, which mixes survival horror, adventure and RPG-style exploration to fantastic effect. There is a real sense of gloom and despair on display here, and wandering around the town is a fascinating experience, thanks to the detail that is present. The game is also quite realistic, making use of some pretty intense survival horror mechanics that mean you need to think about even the simplest of things as you explore. There might not be too much in the way of actual gameplay for many people, and some might label this as a walking simulator, rather than a true adventure like Alone in the Dark or Silent Hill, but if you value story over such things, then this is a great bet. The graphics are a little dated now, but as far as narrative skill goes, this is top notch stuff.
