A royal edition indeed

This game might come in as pretty expensive but if you are an old-school RPG fan who's been looking for a worthy successor to Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale or Planescape: Torment and are interested in picking up some fancy extras along with the base game, then this is for you. In many ways, this is very familiar stuff if you've ever played any of the aforementioned games, and it can be argued that it doesn't do anything radically new. However, the point here is the sheer love that's gone into everything on offer, from the beautifully crafted world, to the customization options, the combat and everything else. What you have is a wonderfully detailed adventure that sees you caught up in a complex fantasy tale, where you explore, do battle with fearsome beasts, seek out treasure and where your every decision has an impact on what follows. In addition to the base game, you get a bunch of extras, including a digital novel, strategy guide, world map, soundtrack, almanac, wallpapers and more, so although the price is high, there's a lot of good content. If you've never tried an old-school narrative-driven RPG before, then this is a great one to start with. It's got a compelling story, fantastically crafted world, heaps of customization options and plenty of meaty decision making to do. The visuals are striking and detailed, the interface is slick and intuitive and the soundtrack atmospheric and memorable so overall, whether you're a newcomer or a genre veteran, this is a must play and a modern classic.
