Point and click excellence
The influence of classic point and click adventures like Monkey Island, Discworld and Indiana Jones continues to be felt in the modern era. The likes of the Deponia series and this game channel this influence to superb effect and are a great reminder that the genre is alive and kicking. Primordia is set in a post apocalyptic world where humans have long since vanished and only intelligent robots continue to exist, scavenging what they can to stay alive. The player controls one of these robots, Horatio, finds his existence under threat when a hostile robot steals his airship's power core, and which thus sets in motion an epic adventure to get it back. What follows is a fairly typical point and click game, where Horatio and his sidekick Crispin scour the land searching for the energy source, encountering the wasteland's unusual inhabitants and solving puzzles along the way. The game has a lot of features to make your quest less stressful, like an auto-map, bottomless inventory and so on, but they just help to make the game more fun but no less of a challenge. Primordia is another modern adventure which really shows the genre's heyday is far from over. The world is stunningly realised, with beautifully detailed graphics that are original and striking. The voice acting is top notch, and brings even further colour to proceedings, with sound to match. The puzzles are clever, inventive and varied and will keep you enthralled and challenged in equal measure, so really, if you like the genre or are just curious, this is a great place to look.
