Pedal to the metal
Rather than being a single game, this is a rather nice collection which includes the not terribly well-known but actually rather good driving game that is Race 07, plus a whole bunch of downloadable content. The series as a whole is cracking stuff and if you want to move on from arcade classics like Outrun and Power Drift, this is a great choice. This one is a touring car simulator, so the main focus here is on participating in the World Championship which takes you through various European countries in cars as diverse as Alfa Romeos, BMWs, Hondas and more, but there are also other racing styles to try out and which let you jump behind the wheel of Caterhams and other vintage cars, alongside things like Mini Coopers. There's a large number of tracks to try out while the extra packs include things like extra cars, more tracks and a few other bits and bobs. There's a definite leaning towards realism here so don't expect an arcade-style experience but if you're up for the challenge, this remains a great choice. There's enough variety in the driving action to keep you going for some time and the game is quite a tricky one, thanks to the emphasis on realism and the smart AI drivers that you will face. The visuals are still holding up extremely well and there's an excellent sense of speed to enjoy while the tracks are all highly detailed and varied in their design. The controls are pretty intuitive but it will take some time to get used to them, making this one for serious drivers or those who want to make the leap.
