The Red Alert games are a spinoff from the main Command & Conquer series of real time strategy titles and are notably less serious than their brethren, with over the top weapons and much more humor in the storylines. They remain fine games though and should be played by anyone with any interest in the genre. Uprising is a standalone expansion for Red Alert 3 which continues the main storyline for that game in an extensive set of single player campaigns. There are actually four here to play through, and they do some quite interesting things with the background, for example exploring the origins of characters from earlier games in order to add to the richness and detail. The gameplay is the same as ever, with a focus on building up bases, gathering resources and so on, but there are eleven new units here, new cutscenes for the campaigns, and a new mode which gives you fifty new unique maps to play on and which offer their own distinct challenges. There's certainly a decent amount of content here so if you are a diehard fan of the series, you're likely to get plenty of entertainment out of this package. The new campaigns and units are the main attraction here and the units in particular are a lot of fun and give you the opportunity to find some cool new strategies. The missions are varied and rarely less than entertaining to play through, as is the new mode. The lack of multiplayer is disappointing, but the music is excellent and the added detail to the lore is very welcome. Perhaps not a must play, but if you do enjoy the series, this is worth adding to the collection.
