The first two games in this series, Saints Row and Saints Row 2
, were gloriously over-the-top action romps that might have been morally questionable, but they sure were a lot of fun. This third installment continues in the same vein, so if you enjoyed the others, then you're going to have a blast here. The story here isn't the main focus, but finds the Saints having evolved from a third rate gang to a household name, a fact which has not gone unnoticed. When The Syndicate, a massive crime organization, demands tribute from the Saints, they decide that such kowtowing is not for them, and take the fight to the streets. What follows is a deliciously mad romp which is packed with the overblown action setpieces that the series is known for. You can expect to fly tanks, nuke the living daylights out of a wrestling match and other such bonkers activities, and it's this sheer variety and imagination which is at the core of the appeal here. It's like GTA
but with the insanity cranked up to eleven and with this edition of the game, you get even more goodness, with a whole heap of extra content. If you're a fan of the series and haven't played this, you should rectify that immediately, and this version is the one to go for, as the extras really do bump up the interest levels. Even if you've never played the franchise before, this isn't a bad place to start, as everything gets explained or isn't necessary for your enjoyment anyway. With its excellent visuals, pumping audio and non-stop thrills, this is a near perfect action experience (as long as you're not easily offended!).
