Shadow Knights

Action 1990 Dos Dosbox id Software Platformer Arcade style

Early ID Software platformer nodding to Ninja Gaiden

If you've played the often times gruelingly challenging NES platformer Ninja Gaiden, then you'll have the backbone of this game. However, imagine how that NES classic would translate to the DOS OS of the 91 era, and you'll have a more complete image of what the game is all about! And what that is is platforming that also makes use of a lot of enemies positioned strategically to trouble you in your left to right trudging on, but, in good old fashioned DOS style, the animations and the levels have their own unique styling and blockings. Truth be told the ID team didn't really go out of their way to create some remarkable time; they weren't paid to do that. You see, this game was created as to fulfill a contractual bond towards the publishers who were Softdisk, who had hired them to produce games for them, to be sold through their distribution systems. So, I guess, that is why the creation of DOOM was postponed up until 93, when the developers (Carmack and co., were able to distribute their own games). But, at any rate, Carmack is a highly enjoyable sidescroller, worth a run without hesitation. So give it a try!
