The classic returns
The original Shadowrun was a classic bit of sci-fi RPG
fun that was given a much appreciated reboot in the form of Shadowrun Returns
, to which Dragonfall was originally an expansion for. This Director's Cut is now available as a standalone entry in the series, and whether you're a fan of the franchise or not, it's well worth a look. The universe in which it is set is a wonderfully original one, mixing cyberpunk and magic to enthralling effect and this installment tells a complex, rich narrative that will keep players hooked to the end, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. The game sees you in control of a small team of shadowrunners, battle-scarred mercs with a bunch of unique skills, which you will need to use wisely as you explore the city and engage in highly tactical turn-based combat. There are plenty of customization options to play around, a fascinating world to explore, some all-new missions and of course, the twisty narrative to enjoy. For the most part, this is a fantastic bit of RPG action. The depth of the story and the richness of the customization are both huge draws and it really is great to see the return of a classic, especially when it's as well done as this. The visuals are lush, with a cool, gritty but shiny look that packs a lot of detail and personality into the characters and the environments. It's not the longest game in the world, especially at this price point, but if you have played and enjoyed the reboot, then this should be of interest to you.
