Hack and slash
This two-part game is the sequel to the equally good Kult: Heretic Kingdoms and provides plenty of Ultima
or Diablo-style RPG
action and adventure. The complex narrative finds players thrown into a nightmare fantasy world where you are caught up in a power struggle between mages who seek to fill a hole left by the collapse of an empire. You are a demon who can possess the souls of the dead and use them as puppets but to tell much more of the story here would be to spoil much of the game's appeal. In terms of gameplay, this is an isometric RPG that features many of the staples of the genre, such as exploration, customization and combat but which are all implemeented in such a way as to make any lack of gameplay innovations forgivable. There are also elements like crafting and character progression but the main focus is on combat which is mostly enjoyable, if slightly simple, stuff. If you are into your old-school RPG adventuring, then this should just about be your cup of tea. Perhaps the game's biggest appeal is the storyline, which is for the most part quite compelling and which explores a few interesting themes. The story is given added value through the voice acting, while the visuals are certainly eye-catching and have a lot lovely details to discover in the lush environments. There's perhaps not as much interaction or freedom as some genre fans would like, and much of the gameplay does rely on clicking to kill but it remains fun enough to make this worth a look and which should provide some entertainment.
