Watch 'em fly!
SimplePlanes is half of a good game. It's a mix of construction and flying and while the building part is fun, the actual flying bit is pretty tedious so if that's where your interests really lie, stick with Falcon or any one of the other million flight sims out there. If however, you enjoy the opportunities offered by other building games like LEGO, then this should prove fun. The first part of the game revolves around simply putting your planes together. You've got a massive range of parts to choose from and it's a fairly simple matter to snap them together by attaching wings, engines, and all the other necessary parts as you see fit so you can find out how good your design skills are. If you're more into following the work of others, you can download plans for over 100,000 planes from the game's website and try things out that way. At any point in the building process, you can flip into flight mode to see how your creation fares in the skies with realistic physics at work. Despite the title's name, you can also build cars, boats, and other vehicles, while there's also the option to engage in dogfights. However, combat is insufferably dull as is flying in general and it's likely that most people will only switch to flight mode to test things out, rather than spending hours zooming around. The building part is much more enjoyable and makes for an entertaining digital construction set, where the only limit is your imagination. The visuals and presentation are simple enough but straightforward, making this worth a look, if only for the building aspect.
