Back To The Drawing Board

Games that feature animal protagonists should either be fun or funny. There are some games which we had to play as a cartoonish animal, something like Bugs Bunny. While there some of these games out there that mostly consist of cartoon humor, there other games that actually feature a storyline, either serious or funny, that you cannot overlook. One of these games is Sonic & Knuckles, which featured 2 storyline, one for each of the two protagonists. But for Skunny - Back to the Forest they seemed to implement both, but it didn't seem to have worked so well. The only story I could get from this game is that you play as Skunny, a female squirel, who tries to rescue her friends from some evil King Toad. Now this is not very original nor serious. The controls seem okay, but these belong to a mediocre platforming game. You move left or right, jump...and basically that's it. Couldn't the developers at least have her throw nuts, just to have at least a weapons. Killing enemies here is just like in Super Mario Bros: you stomp on them. The level design is not very impressive and I have seen better. The graphics are beautiful for DOS standards, but the sound is loud and the music is too repetitive and is played in every single level! In conclusion, Skunny - Back to the Forest could have been an okay 2D platforming game, but the developers need to get back to the drawing board and rethink the game is they wish to have a successful franchise.
