Söldner: Secret Wars

Action 2004 Windows Encore Military Strategic scope

No story, not engaging

Soldner: Secret Wars is a 2004 action strategy game, that can be played in first or third-person. You can drive ground vehicles, planes, VTOLs and helicopters ( I warn you that the controls are kind of bad). There is also a large variety of weapons to use as well (pistols, sniper rifles, explosives and rocket launchers). Your unit can be customizable, from the look, uniform (consisting in different shirts, pants, helmets, boots, gloves, and hairstyles) to accessories like sunglasses or backpacks. After a majectic intro, where you see wars between helicopters, tanks and numerous soldiers, I had the unpleasant surprise to discover that it doesn't compare to the real action in the game. I was bored. You play as a single mercenary, that runs through various missions, winning in fact nothing. The only thing I was impressed about are the graphics and sounds, that are acceptable. The characters are well-detailed, and the missions levels include some impressive view distances. Oh, I almost forgot. There is no story that can harmoniously link your objectives, that can make some sense, some reasons why you involve in battles. There is no logic at all. I was always accustomed to some interesting stories behind the action shooter games I played before. And this element is very important in your way to victory, is more engaging and increases your interest more for the game. That is why I will give Soldner: Secret Wars 2 out of 5 stars.
