War is coming

Stronghold Crusader 2 is a tough but generally enjoyable bit of historical real-time strategy gaming that packs a lot of interest for fans of the genre. It combines some nice visuals with deep tactical play and challenging missions to create a mostly enjoyable experience. The Templar and the Duke is one of many add-ons for the base game, alongside The Emperor & the Hermit and The Jackal & the Khan, that brings in some new characters, a campaign and a few other bits and bobs and which makes for a fine purchase if you enjoy the original. As the title suggests, you've got two new characters to play against, the foppish and arrogant Duke and the righteous Templar who sees himself as a messenger of God. You've also got a seven mission campaign to play through which sees you facing off against these crazed warriors as well as dealing with bandits and protecting outposts in the Holy Land. There are also some unique castles here with free-form designs that offer some intense challenge for series veterans. This is a pretty good example of how to do an add-on pack. It's probably not for casual players but if you are a hardcore fan of the series and consider yourself a tough general, then the challenge on offer here is going to be right up your street, as the campaign is a tough one. The visuals and other aspects of the game, such as the interface, are much the same as usual, so you'll be able to jump right in and focus on the campaign and if you are looking for a way to extend the lifespan of Stronghold Crusader 2, this is a fine way to do it.
