Battle bugs and be a hero

If you've got younger gamers in the house and want to introduce them to the joys of point-and-click adventures like Monkey Island or Discworld, then this is probably the best way of doing it. It's a cheap and cheerful little game that features plenty of humor, some fun and not too taxing puzzles and sharp, stylish graphics. You take control of Reemus the exterminator and his companion and bard, who just happens to be a purple bear. Together, they have to take on a quest that will see them venturing across the land, doing battle with giant insects and which will hopefully allow them to write a song which will finally impress all the citizens of the land and ensure their names go down in history. What follows is a fairly standard point-and-click adventure where you explore a number of colorful environments, solving various puzzles and picking up sidequests. It's all quite simple stuff which lacks the complexity of the true point-and-click classics, but when considered in terms of the target market, it all works just about perfectly. The storyline is fresh and original, with a nice line in offbeat humor that gives the game some real personality, and which is helped by the lush, hand drawn characters and environments and the voice acting, which is of a good standard. The puzzles are equally whacky, suiting the mood perfectly and which are of a good difficulty level, not being too obscure or too easy. The game isn't overly long but when it's only five bucks, you can't really complain so this is definitely worth checking out.
