A sad end...
While fans of the first two Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing
might be tempted to pick up this third entry in the Diablo-style series of action RPG
s, they would probably be disappointed if they did. If you haven't played the first games, then do yourself a favor and check them out but it's probably best to stay away from this one. The story continues the dark fantasy/steampunk tale of legendary monster hunter Van Helsing, with the promise of the End of Times coming at the hands of an old enemy. You'll be a bit lost if you haven't played the earlier installments but to be honest, the story is about the only reason to try this one. The gameplay is familiar stuff, being an isometric action RPG game, with a multitude of classes, heaps of nasty monsters to slay, unique abilities and heaps of customization options. While all this sounds good on paper, in reality the game proves to be a crushing disappointment. The essential gameplay is still intact and to a certain extent, this is enjoyable stuff. However, for diehard fans, there's a lot to be upset about. You can't carry over characters from previous games, so you're going to have to start all over again, while the new skill trees are a bit of a ripoff. They're basically the same as before, only cut in half and simplified to the point of almost being an insult. There's a pretty low level cap, while most classes now only have one or two useful skills which just end up getting spammed. The visuals are still decent enough, and the gameplay is solid, but ultimately, this is a hard one to recommend.
