Survive or else!
Taking its inspiration from Slavic mythology and combining it with Rogue- and Laser Squad-style elements, Thea is a very successful turn-based strategy game that is sure to eat up lots of your time. The inclusion of non-linear story elements, card-based aspects and tough difficulty level give it a variety and challenge that is sure to appeal to lovers of old-school experiences and board games alike. The game is set in a well realized and rather dark fantasy-style world which has been overcome by a force known only as The Darkness. Your goal here, as leader of a band of survivors, is simply to make it through these dark times, so forget about saving the world with heroes and just concentrate on staying alive. The game mixes survival elements with turn-based combat, as you attempt to build up your village and venture out to defeat the hideous creatures which just want to rip your face off. The whole thing is played out in a realistic day/night cycle, while there are also loads of items to craft, monsters to face and other such things. Thea really is a great experience. At the core of its appeal is the sheer variety of activities you'll be involved in, with the village management sitting well alongside the exploration and combat, and with all aspects implemented well. The world is a genuinely interesting one to explore, being dark and full of secrets, and which is brought to life nicely with some atmospheric visuals. Combat is tactical and challenging, while the procedurally generated levels will keep you playing for some time. Highly recommended!
