Turn It

Neat tile-matching fun

Fans of Chess and Mahjong are the clear target market for this neat little variant on the classic tile-turning formula which, while not without its flaws, is certainly engaging enough to keep puzzle fans hooked. In truth, the game doesn't stray too far from the template laid down by Mahjong and maintains the basic setup without adding very much in the way of original elements but this is no great shame as everything is executed well enough. In case you're unfamiliar with the concept, the game presents players with an array of tiles and which must be removed in order to complete the level. You eliminate tiles by finding matching pairs but there must be no other tiles in their projection path in order for this to happen and it requires a keen eye and a bit of forward thinking in order to emerge victorious. There really isn't much else to the game but this is one of those titles where you don't really need much else to make it enjoyable. Like Tetris and other such classic puzzlers, the concept is elegantly simple and it is this fact which provides its strength. Other puzzlers have fallen down as they try to expand too much on a winning formula and the elegance thus becomes lost in a wave of needless special rules and confusing elements. Not so here and Turn It really does make for a nicely relaxing bit of gaming with which to tax your mental muscles. Visually, it's likewise simple enough but the attractive colours and straightforward design help to maintain the relaxing mood, so if you are looking for a bit of Mahjonng style fun, you can't go wrong with this one.
