A Solid Arcade Game
Volfied is a game that should definitively been on your "Top 10 DOS arcade games" list. It's a fun and addicting game. I remember playing this game for hours when I was young and played it on my second computer. The game is basically an updated version of Qix, with extra features and a futuristic science fiction aesthetic, rather than Qix's abstract geometry style. The player pilots a small spaceship named "monotros" instead of a simple dot and the enemies come in the form of various aliens. The opening cutscene before the first level pretty much give a synopsys of the story. Volfied takes place in an alternate galaxy, where a planet call Volfied is being attacked by an unknown alien force. It's up to you to save the planet and its inhabitants. The gameplay is rather simple: use your shit to claim most of the game screen by drawing a line from edge to another/same edge. Once you have claimed at least 80 percent of the screen, you have completed the level. However, there are some alien ship that will make your task difficult. If they manage to touch your ship while you're drawing the line, it destroys you. There are some helpful power-ups in the game, like speed and laser. The graphics are quite good, but the music in the DOS version is awful. It's so bad that it makes you turn down your speakers. Overall, Volfied is a solid arcade game and addicting as well.
