This is the series which really marked out Telltale Games as one to watch and sparked the massive interest in interactive adventures which continued with the likes of Tales of Monkey Island
and Back to the Future
. This series remains one of the best examples of the genre, especially if you're a fan of the TV show, thanks to its mix of gripping storylines and tough decision making. There isn't a great deal of interactivity for much of the game however, so if you're more the hands-on type, you might want to look elsewhere, but otherwise, this makes for a fine experience. You've got five all-new episodes here, which are set in the nightmare post-apocalyptic world of the show, where zombies have overrun humanity and everyone is now just trying to stay alive. The first episode starts out slowly enough, introducing you to some of the key characters and the gameplay style, but it's not long before the zombies start coming for you and the tricky choices need to be made, with a mix of dialogue-based options and some clever timing-based situations which force you to think on your feet. As far as interactive storytelling goes, this remains a top notch example. The writing is as clever and mature as the source material demands, with plenty of drama, well written characters and twists and turns along the way and which will keep you hooked to the end. The visuals do a great job of bringing the show and the graphic novels to life, and really help to immerse you in this haunting world. If you have any interest in interactive stories, this needs to be part of your collection.
