Walls of Rome

Strategy 1993 Dos Dosbox Mindcraft Historical Organized forces

Tactical wargame with simple top down graphics

Mindcraft had honed its strategy skills with a long lasting series of games, amongst which Siege and Wall of Rome were without a doubt more creative and innovative. However, these were classic wargaming creations whereas Walls of Rome is a tactical game first and foremost. This means that you will be tasked with deploying your troops in a more hands down manner, controlling smaller squads, but having a lot more to say about each skirmish. Graphically the game offers you a perfect 180 degrees top down perspective, which is functional but not necessarily very pretty. However, some simply love this kind of view, as no extra graphical information is offered. This Spartan graphical approach lends itself very nicely to a game where strategic thinking, timing and collaboration of units as well as thought out planning will win the skirmish. Fun wise, the game offers more than you would expect, as the scenarios available will lend themselves to lots of different strategies, which will always keep you on your toes. So, for a simple tactical oriented wargame, Walls of Rome will definitely fill that position and offer you a lot of enjoyment even if the graphical style is not agglomerated or too diverse.
