Explores, be wary!
Playing out a little like Terraria and Minecraft, this sounds like it could have been an interesting addition to the block building exploration genre. However, thanks to a myriad of issues and bugs it turns out to be pretty much a disaster which is best avoided. The game sounds good on paper and sees you exploring side scrolling steampunk-style environments and following an admittedly interesting storyline through a well realized world, both in terms of visuals and background. The game mixes Contra-style action with block building, and you'll have to make use of an endless variety of craftable items and to think creatively in order to solve problems and overcome tribulations. The core part of the game's appeal is this sense of freedom, where how you progress is really down to your own inventiveness, while the sheer degree of customization is also a big attraction. You can create your own airships and face flying whales as you progress through your adventure so in theory, this sounds like a cracking game. So what went wrong? The main points are the sheer amount of bugs and the lack of general polish. In general, the gameplay is enjoyable enough, with plenty of random quests to complete, lots to explore and loads of stuff to craft. However, progress is barred by all those bugs and some poorly thought-out mechanics. The visuals are nice enough, with some cool steampunk designs (and of course, flying whales), and the concept itself is solid. However, it's largely let down by the execution so be wary when approaching this one.
