Zafehouse is another little indie game which makes extensive use of the current obsession with zombies, but it is brave enough to do something that's actually different and for that it must be applauded. It's not a perfect game by any means, with moments of frustration in amongst the high points, but it's interesting enough to warrant a closer look if you're after something unusual. The game is a tricky one to describe or to compare with something similar, but it's a sort of tactical strategy game which mixes in resource management while surviving in a zombie infested world. The game is procedurally generated, so it's always different, but it's your job to manage various survivors and their requirements, also juggling elements of their personal relationships while looking out for zombies too of course. Zahehouse is almost a classic slice of zombie fun. It gets a lot of points for the sheer unusualness of its gameplay, which although it requires a lot of reading, is for the most part highly compelling. Everything is well put together, while the background and setting is detailed and believable. Managing the various social elements of the characters is a big draw and it is undeniably fascinating figuring out how best to get people to get along. The game is however, very hard, and it's here that the problems creep in. It's not just hard but frustrating and unfair at times, thanks in part to the random events. The interface is clunky at times too, so overall, be prepared to have as many moments of frustration as enjoyment if you do pick this up.
