Remember the time of the powerful families Medici a Machiavelli? When money was power, when trading was money, and everything can be bought and sold? This game puts you right in that struggle of power, reflects the importance of money very accurately and in everything makes you feel like you're back in the 16th century. This great amazing game puts you in the position of a leader of one of the families, and your job is to make a name for yourself. You are primarily trading goods for money and selling them back for more money, but you have much higher ambitions. You don't like somebody? Just hire someone to kill them. Want a connection in the Vatican? Well, the cardinals are not as pure as you thought, and love the taste of gold. The game is very interesting, challenging and oozes with the rivaling atmosphere. The game has a relatively easy gameplay, a lot of buttons but very practical, a detailed map and a lot of statistics, but not many enough to get you confused. The visuals are very nice for that time and the design is very good. The soundtrack is also great and helps in keeping the atmosphere true. Indeed, one of the best trading strategy games out there. Worth a shot! For a similar game, give Gloriana: Elisabeth I a try.

Sentinel Worlds

 I remember playing this game back on my C=64. It was one of the few space RPGs I found. I still feel it has some concepts that are ideal and advanced for their time, and if worked into modern RPGs would be fantastic. I particularly lik the ability to hack the ships programs to improve your ship, and the ability to target specific components of enemy vessels. The graphics were very simplistic, even for their time, and the monotonous music did not do the game service. Still, it had a lot of playability and replayability in my opinion. I can still enjoy this game today for the starship blasting fun, as long as I turn off the sound and turn on winamp in the background. Playing it in a Dos Emulator is actually even more enjoyable, as I do not have to keep switching disks and waiting for load times. I do wish that there were more portraits to choose from when creating your own character. If you like classic RPGs such as Wasteland and The Bards Tale, give this one a look.

Space Invaders (Taito, 1980)

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/682/44005-SpaceInvaders.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 The '80s had its share of good and bad games. Even though I was born in '91, I've a pirated version of Atari 2600, which had built-in games, but also had the option of using cartridges, but back then Atari was that famous in my country. One built-in game that fondly remember is Space Invaders, an arcade classic which I will never forget. There was a game on the Nintendo Entertainment System which was very similar to Space Invaders, Galaxian, which I have better memories of playing it and quickly made be forget about the earlier one. But that was about 13 years ago and recently I have stumbled upon Space Invaders again and wanted to see how well it fared with me. It fared well and didn't quite age a big, at least not for me. The gameplay is very simple: you control what seems to be a small tank, shooting at aliens who come down towards you. The only objective is to destroy them all. The graphics are simplistic and colorful and the sound reminds you of Atari's golden age. In conclusion, only word can describe this game and that word is CLASSIC! If you ever happen to stumble upon this, go ahead and try it out!

Dracula Reign of Terror

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/2203/5719-DraculaReignofTerror.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 If you thought this is some kind of a horror game involving the deadliest of vampires, Dracula, you are dead wrong. This is a simple strategy game, and Dracula is here 100 percent human and a warlord that is trying to conquer back his country from a aggressive Turkish army that has taken it over. There is not much to be said about the gameplay, since it is very typical for a strategy game - build units, categorize them into swordsmen, archers and so on, build weapons such as catapults and so forth, take care of your empire management and, destroy your enemies and take back what is rightfully yours. After you've conquered back your lands, you have to defend them against further warring attempts. The game offers a pretty cool premise featuring the famous Count and could have gotten in a much cooler way, such as the Count really being an Vampire and leading an army of the undead, but instead, we have a very normal and a tad boring strategy game that uses Dracula just as a name to attract fans. Oh, well. Still, the game is no Civilization nor Warcraft, but is a solid game that should be looked at, but try not to have to high hopes.

Pinball Dreams

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/1094/3443-PinballDreams.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 Although there are virtually a million various pinball games, this one was a big hit when it came out in 1992. I think this game is famous because of its "Less is more" take on the making - there are no unnecessary flashy lights, no screaming colors or a million other cool and fancy features. This game is so simple, and that makes it so great. The only think I mind with this and other games like this (such as Slam Tilt, which is one of the game's sequels) is that you don't get the view of the whole table at once, but rather the camera follows the ball as it bumps along the table. I like the game's simplicity in its originality and the great soundtrack with cool sound effects during the game. There are 4 tables, each with a theme of its own, so you practically get 4 fun games in one. My final ruling is that this is a very good pinball game, with simplicity which makes it only better, but if you are more for a flashy pinball game, try out Slam Tilt or Judge Dredd Pinball

Xargon

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/4575/7936-Xargon.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 Xargon is a very fun side scrolling adventure game that is pretty typical in its gameplay but with a very compelling and intriguing story. In three volumes, you have to find three power objects which you must use wisely and carefully to complete the game. In the first volume you have to destroy Xargons main reactor, in the second one you have to find a special hidden chamber and in the third and final volume you must fight Xargon himself. You also have to find the power sources as well, of course. The gameplay is fairy typical - jump from platform to platform, vanquish enemies, collect items and powerups and proceed to the next level. The game's charming cartoonish graphics and fun gameplay are definitely on par with the game's great quality. If you like platormer games and "kill the villain" games, this game will definitely be a great choice. And if you want, you can check the game's distant cousin, Jill of The Jungle. Highly recommended!

Life and Death

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/449/1735-LifeandDeath.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 This is one of the better doctor simulation game and puts you in the role of a surgeon that is specialized in the digestive system. You have to accurately diagnose your patient and, if necessary, operate on him (possibly letting him live :D), and if you make a mistake, you are sent to the classroom where you are explained just what you did wrong. The procedure gets more and more difficult as the game progresses. The game is very detailed and extremely realistic, which is quite natural since a doctor is the designer of the game. You have to be very careful in you operations, since the slightest mistake can mean the death of a patient. The game is also very educational because you learn a lot about the digestive system, how it looks and what does it look like. For a game of this nature good graphics are needed and given. The images are very clear and detailed so the sense of realism is even higher. Truly, along with Theme Hospital, this is one of the best and most detailed surgeon simulation games. And if you want more, become a brain surgeon in Life and Death 2.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/1792/4789-TurokDinosaurHunter.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 This games ok...little repetitive. I like the gun animations and the frame per second is really smooth, but when you see more than 5 enemies at once... It gets a little choppy, try it, you'll see what i mean. I loved the gore in this game! pretty fun to blow someone up with the grenade launcher, but i got after doing it for the umpteenth time. Well um, i thought the fighting was'nt the best part of the game, in fact, i really cant name anything i REALLY like about this game. However the game is fun if you like the gore, and the death animations.... but beyond that, and a pretty dead storyline, you don't really have much to do.

Nebulus

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/533/59236-Nebulus.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 Nebulus is a fantastic and original arcade game with revolutionary graphical technics and programming that easily make this game a hundred times better than it would have normally. The premise of the game is very simple, you have to climb 8 towers that have emerged from the sea, set the to self - destruct, get away, and swim to the next tower. But here is where the fun kicks in - while climbing the enormous set of stairs that surround the tower, you come across doors that will instantly teleport you to another point on the tower. There are also a lot of obstacles and dangers along the way that you must avoid or overcome. The spinning tower graphics were indeed revolutionary in 1987, and it looks very realistic. As you move, in the background you can see the tower rotating accordingly. The game is very fun and addictive, and graphically very advanced for that time, although lacking in coloring and the ability to save the game. Even if we take those things into account, we get a fantastic and very fun arcade game that will win you over. Have fun! For other cool arcade old school games, try Donkey Kong or Elf.

CivNet

 <img src="http://thumb.squakenet.com/175/679-CivNet.jpg" align="left" hspace="10">
 Sid Meier's Civilization series was and is one of the best empire management video game of all times. What started as an innocent game for the DOS, where you started slowly building up your empire, has ended with a critically acclaimed Civilization 5, that even today there are gamers out there who still play it. Even though the series seems like it has ended, let's take a look into the past and witness the creation of CivNet. Now, I will keep this review short because there isn't much to say about this game and it can only be reviewed in a couple of words. Sid Meier's CivNet was released in 1995 and was a remake of the original game with added multiplayer, improved graphics and sound, and Windows 3.1/95 support. Gameplay was almost identical to the original game. There were several methods of multiplayer, including LAN, primitive Internet play, hotseat, modem, and direct serial link. Unfortunately, if you can't find a friend to play with, this game can only be looked as a game that lived its glory and finally died. I managed to convince one of my friends to at least try it out and it did, but we had to install an older Windows in order to play. In conclusion, for its time, CivNet was an interesting concept and a well made multiplayer remake, but for today's standards, it's just a dead game. If you manage to gather some friends, you might find this game enjoyable.
